San Jose, Calif. (July 9, 2018) – Unity Care, a Northern California nonprofit organization that serves youth in the foster care system, today announced that it has expanded its ability to serve youth aging out of foster care with the acquisition of asupportive housing complex for young women. The complex provides case management and therapeutic services for female transitional age youth (TAY) who are attending school and working.
Housing is a critical part of Unity Care’s strategy to promote self-sufficiency and prevent homelessness for foster youth. Nationwide, 40 percent of foster youth experience homelessness within two years of turning 18. Unity Care’s goal is to provide safe, secure and affordable homes for TAY (ages 18–24), while helping them successfully transition into adulthood.
The San Francisco complex is part of Unity Care’s acquisition of MAC’s Children & Family Services, a nonprofit organization serving transitional-age foster youth in San Francisco and San Mateo Counties.
