Unity Care Group, Inc., a non-profit multi-service youth and family development agency, is extremely excited to learn that Santa Clara County Board Supervisor, George Shirakawa, has selected the agency’s president, André Chapman as this year’s Human Relations Award recipient for his efforts in promoting positive human relations and/or civil rights in Santa Clara County.
André Chapman, President and CEO, expressed his sincerest thanks for being recognized and is humbled by the award. André said, “I am honored and grateful that Supervisor Shirakawa has chosen me to receive the Human Relations Award, which is a testament to the work and deep commitment of Unity Care’s Board of Directors, staff, donors and volunteers. The Supervisor’s recognition is a special affirmation for the often difficult life-changing work the agency has provided to thousands of youth and families over the past 17 years. Even in difficult economic times, we have continued to advocate for those in desperate need of safety-net services – our foster youth and families. We will continue to educate the community by shedding light to the struggles of our youth and families, and I encourage the community to join us in our efforts of changing lives one child at a time.”
For the past 38 years the Friends of Human Relations, in conjunction with the Human Relations Commission and the Office of Human Relations, has held this event to honor individuals for their voluntary and/or professional work in building peace, equality and justice in Santa Clara County.
The Awards Breakfast will take place on Thursday, April 22, 2010 from 7:30 a.m to 9:30 a.m. at the Wyndham Hotel located at 1350 North First Street in San Jose. Doors open at 6:45 a.m. and the program will commence at 7:30 a.m. sharp. The annual event anticipates an audience of approximately 500 – 600 individuals. The proceeds from the event will be used to support the work of the Human Relations Commission and the Office of Human Relations and will help contribute greatly to programs and community efforts that serve to promote, peace, respect and equality for all County residents.
