PropelNext guides next-generation nonprofits through transformational change to achieve results for youth. Unity Care is on of 12 organizations selected to receive a California PropelNext grant and participate in the three-year initiative. Unity Care will receive a $200,000 grant from the Heising-Simons Foundation along with an investment of expert one-on-one coaching, group learning sessions, and a peer learning community.
San Jose, California— September 18, 2018
Unity Care is honored to announce that the agency was selected to be a Northern California PropelNextgrantee funded by the Heising-Simons Foundation.
By participating in the program, Unity Care receives a combination of unrestricted funding and capacity-building supports over three years from one of the four northern California-based co-investors (noted in parenthesis below) and EMCF.
This support includes $200,000 in direct grants and an approximately equal amount in services which include one-on-one coaching and consulting from sector experts, facilitated group learning sessions and a peer learning community. EMCF delivers the program and coordinates the resources and services provided through PropelNext.
Through PropelNext, the agency will enhance and sharpen their program models, implement strong performance management systems, and develop organizational mastery for ongoing learning and improvement.
As a result of these investments, the life prospects of transitional aged foster youth in the Bay Area will be improved by Unity Care’s new smarter, stronger organization, as they will be better able to set strategic priorities informed by data and improved decision-making, measure and track performance and impact, increasing their ability to serve more youth more effectively and generate greater resources for their work.
The 11 organizations alongside Unity Care in PropelNext’s Northern California cohort are:
• Able Works (Heising-Simons Foundation)
• Bill Wilson Center (Sobrato Family Foundation)
• Braven (Packard Foundation)
• CollegeSpring (Packard Foundation)
• Enterprise for Youth (Hewlett Foundation)

• Oakland Leaf (Hewlett Foundation)
• Puente de la Costa Sur (Sobrato Family Foundation)
