Unity Care Group, Inc. is excited to be the recipient of the Drum Major Award at the upcoming 29th Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Luncheon on Monday, January 19, 2008 presented by the African American Community Services Agency (AACSA). Annually, this prestigious award is presented to organizations that have demonstrated outstanding service to the community.
President and CEO, André Chapman expressed his tremendous joy and anticipation for the upcoming awards ceremony. “The Drum Major award means a great deal to me and to our dedicated staff at Unity Care. With our recent 15th Anniversary celebration and in the midst of these challenging economic times, this award uplifts our spirits and encourages us to continue the tireless and often daunting task of working to make a positive difference in the lives of our most vulnerable youth and family population. We thank the AACSA for recognizing our efforts to enrich the lives of at-risk youth.”
This year’s luncheon’s theme is “a celebration of the Life and Legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.” and will take place at the Wyndham Hotel, 1350 N. 1st Street, San Jose. A reception will commence at 11:00 am and the lunch and program will occur from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm. The Keynote Speaker is Dr. Scott Myers-Lipton from the Sociology Department at San Jose State University and organizer of the Gulf Coast Civic Works Campaign
Fellow awardees for outstanding community achievement include, Gene Young Award for Outstanding Individual Community Service presented to Leon Beauchman, Santa Clara County Alliance of Black Educators. The Award of Merit will be presented to Omar Benson Miller, Actor, “8 Mile”, “Transformers”, “The Express”, “Miracle of St. Anna”.
