1500 Local Volunteers to make a difference During Rebuilding Blitz

An army of Rebuilding Together volunteers will transform 34 homes6 Community Facilities and the lives of those who live within them during April 19 & 26 rebuilding days.  Volunteers from local Corporations, High schools, Universities and Faith communities will join together to perform countless repairs to ensure low-income (primarily elderly and disabled) homeowners can live in warmth, safety and independence.

This marks Rebuilding Together’s annual event, National Rebuilding Day, when tens of thousands of volunteers across the country will team up with Rebuilding Together’s affiliates to repair homes, revitalize communities, and restore the lives of thousands of homeowners in need. Rebuilding Together, the nation’s largest nonprofit organization working to preserve homeownership and  revitalize neighborhoods by providing home repair services free of charge to those in need.

Among those volunteering are:

100+ volunteers from Intel will be performing their own extreme makeover at a residential home for at-risk youth owned and operated by Unity Care Group.  Painting, kitchen repairs and new appliances will enhance the living environment at this center, committed to providing a safe and secure living space for foster and at-risk youth.

Volunteers from Ernst & Young will roll up their sleeves at another Unity Care home, fixing cabinets, painting inside and out, and making landscaping improvements, among other tasks.

Across the country, more than 8,600 houses and community centers will be painted, repaired, weatherized and rehabbed during this special nationwide event involving 267,000 volunteers in 1879 cities and towns. Rebuilding Together Silicon Valley is an affiliate of Rebuilding Together, the nation’s leading volunteer organization preserving and revitalizing low-income houses and communities since 1988.

Founded in 1991, Rebuilding Together Silicon Valley transforms homes and lives by repairing or rebuilding homes and community facilities for low-income homeowners, particularly the elderly, the disabled and families with children.  Each year, more than 1,700 Silicon Valley volunteers gather to complete both major and minor repairs and improvements, enabling residents to live in warmth, safety and independence.  All repairs and improvements are completely free of charge with materials provided through donations and funds from area businesses, organizations, and private individuals.
